Sat and I have been talking about making microwave potato chips for the longest time. We always had some excuse for not doing it (not a good ones either) – no potatoes, we want a mandoline, the kitchen counter was too messy, etc. Well, we finally got a mandoline, and then we had some potatoes, and finally some time. Sunday we finally got or act together and made some microwave potato chips! Go us! (I know, we are pathetic. . . ). Well, they were pretty awesome. We burnt quite a few and I ate a couple that were underdone but it was a good experience overall. I just wish we could actually see inside our microwave to monitor their “doneness”. The steam from the potatoes cooking fogs the window-ish-ness so that we can’t really tell how brown they are.
Some lessons learned:
- Lawry’s is not so great on the chips
- Pepper is awesome and all, but don’t overdo it!
- Thinner slices cook a lot faster
- Put the potato on the mandoline holder thingy horizontally – it falls off if on vertically.
Thanks for the great recipe, Susan V!!
