Well, this is the follow up post to the one earlier today. I was just going to edit it but was worried that those of you with RSS would not be notified of the change so am just going to start from scratch…

I guess before I begin I should start with a little back story. About a month ago I had my second interview for the ILL manager position. I was REALLY hoping to get the job and actually thought that I might get it. Well, I found out one Sunday night/Monday morning that I did not get it. I was so sad and disappointed that I immediately started applying for jobs on the UCSD job site, JOBlink. I didn’t really think much of the jobs that I applied for. I mean, I applied for things that I thought I had a chance of getting but didn’t really care that much. It was just what I needed to do to help me feel better.

Well, one of the jobs that I applied for was the Special Collections Library Public Services Assistant. I didn’t really give it a second thought after applying – I don’t have any spec. coll. experience and that seemed like a pretty strong requirement based on the job description. Low and behold, they wanted me! I got an e-mail from L, the head of that library letting me know that they were interested in interviewing me but that they were all sick so couldn’t do it right away. Nice to get a heads up. Well, I got my interview scheduled later the following week and again didn’t think much about it. I didn’t even start my interview prep until two days before and again, didn’t think I had a chance so didn’t worry about it too much.

So the interview was last Friday. It was only about 30 minutes long and there were a lot of questions that I didn’t have good answers for: “Ref experience – only basic ref”, “stacks maintenence – only shelved in Dewey and not much”, “Spec Coll – none”. so that sucked. I didn’t really get a good vibe from the people buuuuuuut, it ends up that they was just because they were on the mend!It ends up they all LOVED me (odd, huh ) and I was their unanimous 1st choice. L called me today to see if I was still interested before she began the pre-offer paperwork. Sooooo, I have been unofficially offered a job in the Mandeville Special Collections Library.

So that is my big news. I still have yet to get the official offer (sometime this week) and I still have yet to ACCEPT the position. But it is all really exciting for me. It is really going to have to suck to leave my current job. I love my students and like the freedom and variety that I have but I think it would be awesome to learn something new, to make more money (did I mention that it has the potential to be a LOT more money??), and to FINALLY HAVE A MONDAY – FRIDAY SCHEDULE!! So it is exciting. I’ll post again when I learn more.

I hope you are having a GREAT Holy Week.

~Col

p.s. – I have been having an AWEFUL time with making paragraphs in WordPress – i don’t know what it going on. Sorry it is a blob!
