Losing One Addiction, Gaining Another

Back long, long ago when Colleen and I were in our engaged and before Colleen moved out here, she mentioned that we shouldn’t get cable. It would make us lazy and anti-social, she reasoned so it was best to not even have it hooked up in our (then) new apartment. Of course, I didn’t listen and things turned out a lot like she expected.

Who would have thought that it would take the purchase of a fancy new HDTV before we finally were ready to give up our cable addiction?

Wii Are Such Suckers

I knew it was a bad idea.

One of Colleen’s co-workers offered us a Nintendo Wii (for the full price, that is) but I wasn’t sold on getting it. Sure, they look really cool and I really would like to have one but I knew we didn’t need it so I told Colleen to pass up the offer. The offer sat there for several weeks before Colleen got the miraculous idea to ask her parents if they wanted one. No way they would want one, right?

It’s funny how old people have a way of surprising you ;)

Before I knew it, we were writing out a check to the aforementioned co-worker, to be reimbursed by Colleen’s parents once we shipped it to them. Now I’m afraid we aren’t going to get reimbursed; not because they are charlatans but because I doubt we are ever going to send it to them :-P

Colleen picked up the Wii on Monday and I thought, “Aw, what the heck? Let’s try it before sending it off.” I should have known those would be famous last words. Colleen instantly got hooked but she tried not to let on. I thought it was fun too but I didn’t want to let on either. Eventually we couldn’t keep up the charade any longer. When I got home yesterday Colleen had made like 5 extra “Mii” characters and I knew she didn’t want to give it up. I got a little too excited from the rush of beating people up in Wii Boxing so Colleen knew I was attached too.

I think we are going to ask Colleen’s parents if they want the current one we have or want us to try to get another one from Colleen’s co-worker. Then again, I don’t know if the answer will matter: I think we are keeping it either way.
