Part #2 of Staycation 2008
Alright, we have gotten a little ridiculous about this staycation business. Sat and I have been talking about writing about the second half of our mini vacation for the longest time but were both too lazy to write. So here it is for you - albeit, a condensed version.
Day 3:
On Saturday we got a slow start but left to pick up my parents at their hotel around 11 since we all had to be checked out by noon. On our way over we stopped by Vons to pick up some breakfast and some tape (dad’s luggage split on the way to CA). After we picked them up we headed to Long beach to check out the aquarium and Queen Mary. The aquarium was pretty cool - but BUSY. As some of you already know, I don’t do well with crowds, they make me a little crazy. Had I not been having my crazy anxiety and personal space issues I probably would have really enjoyed it. (I’m sure Sat will post some pictures to compliment this text, but if not, check out his Flickr - they should all be there.)
Filed under General, Holiday | Comment (0)Spring Break, WOOOOO!
It’s somewhat weird when you live in a spring break destination. People want to come to your town to soak up some sun and booze but all you want to do is get away. I’m not complaining though; I’m pumped that spring break has finally arrived.
It hasn’t been all that long since our last post but it has been the end of the term and Easter was on Sunday so a fair amount of things have been going on. I’ll start from the beginning, namely the end… of the term.
As you might have gleaned from Colleen’s last couple posts, she was offered a job in the Mandeville Special Collections Library. She was a little depressed from being passed over for the other jobs she interviewed for but that made this offer even sweeter. She officially accepted the position today and she begins her new job on April 14. I know she is going to rock, just like she does in all aspects of life.

Sat and I never get pictures of us together - it is always one or the other. But lookie what Colleen got this weekend.
This is for you mom, happy early birthday! I guess most of you (you know, the two that actually keep up with this blog) are wondering what the heck I am doing posting in the middle of the day on a Tuesday. Well, last night we had my world famous french onion soup and for some reason every so often the soup makes me pretty nauseated the following morning. Like this morning. Sat was actually driving me to work when I realized today might be a good day to stay home sick. All those bumps with the bricks at the gate and then a quick u-turn that left my stomach reeling. So after another quick u-turn I called my boss and let him know I wouldn’t be able to make it in today. Although I still don’t feel a hundred percent Sat is positive that it is just my guilt at not going to work that is making me think that I don’t feel good. Continue reading »
Colleen’s posts are better
I just thought I would get that out of the way right now because it is so true.
Well, Sat and I dropped Sarah and Collin off at the airport this morning around 5. It was a pretty awesome weekend. S and C flew in late on Wednesday night for the long weekend. We spent our valentine’s day mostly in bed - S and C resting from their trip. It was one of those rare rainy/gloomy days in San Diego but it seemed to work out okay for us. While S and C were waking up and getting used to the warm weather I went to the dentist and got myself a shiny new tooth. Continue reading »

The Christmas present spread, originally uploaded by elsaturnino.
Christmas is one of those days that you can really grow to anticipate and then when it comes you end up a bit disappointed.
Not this year though!
Colleen and I have been extremely excited for Christmas this year and it really lived up to all of our expectations. We had a tree full of presents, a couple wonderful new kitties, and (most importantly) lots of love. The only unfortunate thing about today has been that it has left us both exhausted. Hopefully I’ll be able to relay a lot of the good stuff that went on but Colleen might have to come by tomorrow and wrap things up. Without further ado though, let’s get it poppin’.
Filed under Holiday | Comment (0)CHRISTMAS IS TOMORROW!
Can you tell that I am a little excited?? As you can see I have already posted pictures of the first opened Christmas gifts. I had Sat open one this morning (12:01 am this morning!) so that he could have it for today. He definitely thought I was off my rocker insisting that he open one of his presents so early. I had to keep reassuring him that this wasn’t some trick so that I could open some of my presents early. My reasoning? We had decided to make our big Christmas meal today so that we wouldn’t have to worry about it tomorrow. Plus, he has been promising me cookies for weeks now and today is supposed to be the day that he makes them. Now, if you have ever been within a block of Sat when he is cooking you know that he is famous for getting food all over his clothes, and then crying about it. I figured if he opened this present BEFORE he started cooking I wouldn’t have to but him anymore clothes! Although we have now decided to push back the big meal (Tofurky is thawed) he used his apron to make pancakes this morning and is working on the cookie as we speak - yummy cooookies. 2 Days ’til Christmas

Garcia Family Christmas Photo, originally uploaded by elsaturnino.
Today was Christmas Eve Eve. Yes, I know it’s lame to call 2 days before some event as “eve eve” but it’s Christmas time so shouldn’t you be in a nice mood?
My sister and Dad came down to visit us for a bit today. Having forgotten to get them a gift we had to do some last minute shopping last night and this morning to rectify the situation. We didn’t really know what to get either of them but we settled on an 8 bottle wine cooler for Jenne—I’m talking about a refrigerator for wine, not those sweet alco-pop things that some women like—and a digital photo key chain for my dad. We were really excited for Jenne’s gift because we was sure she would love it but Dad’s gift was hard to gauge.
We didn’t really know what their plans were for the day so we didn’t know whether we had to plan to entertain them for the whole day or to expect them to stay over night. Continue reading »
Filed under Holiday | Comment (0)3 (?) Days ’til Christmas
Well, we were doing pretty well there for a while - a post a day and lots of fun information. And then we got Rubi and Roxy. Let me tell you, they are super awesome. They like to play and today have taken a liking to sleeping!
This morning when I got up they were both waiting outside the bedroom door for Sat and I to play. I got my 1/2 hour of alone time with the kitties and played with them. I also tried to use our “Furminator” to help get them brushed and de-dandered before Sat got up - didn’t work so well. But Sat and I took care of them when they started winding down a few hours later. Way easier to do when they are sleepy. Continue reading »

So, good news, my nephew Collin might be getting out of the hospital tomorrow! If he can keep his O2 stats above 92 over night he will be home free.
Sat was criticizing my posts earlier, saying that all I did was write about what happened that day. I started thinking and wanted to do a year recap and even started writing it. Then I realized that the past year is kind of a blur to me. We did a bunch of stuff, saw some cool places, and ate some tasty foods. But I couldn’t really tell you much about it, nor do I really have the patience to wade through the calendar and figure it all out. But maybe Sat will for he New Year’s post (he gets all nostalgic). Speaking of which, did you know that so far Sat has kept his New Years resolution??
Lets see, on another vein of conversation, it sounds like I might be getting TWO kitties!! We are still crunching the figures and deciding what to do but the cats that Sat has been looking at are a pair (sisters) and the shop owner would REALLY like to keep them together. And who are Sat and I to break up a family? I figure it is like finding out you are going to have twins. There really isn’t anything you can do about it and you do everything you can to make it work - and it does. We are just trying to pound some “positional” details out. Where to put the litter box and food/water bowly things, where to make their beds up.
Well, this already shallow well is all but dry so I am going to call it a night. Have a good one!

Writing is hard.
Well, at least that is the way it seems sometimes.
As part of our continuing series “X Days ’til Christmas” I have been given the task of updating you on all that happened today. Let’s get started, shall we?
Colleen had a busy day at work today. Not only was she in charge of a training seminar at work (which drew a crowd of about 25), she had her interview for the ILL position. Last night we were practicing some questions she thought she would be asked and from the sounds of it, most of the questions they asked were ones that we anticipated. Colleen didn’t feel like it went very well but I’m sure she is just being modest. Timing in at approximately 13 minutes, it sounded pretty anti-climactic. Apparently she will now have to wait until the end of January before the next part of the interview process happens. Continue reading »
