Long Weekend Comes To a Close
The only bad thing about a great, extended weekend is that it eventually has to come to an end. Luckily the weekend was able to end on a positive note so hopefully this coming week will be a happy and productive one.
Today I was itching to get out and do something outdoorsy. Our default activity when doing something outside usually involves going geocaching so I used that as a starting point for our day. Unfortunately, I’ve been (unsuccessfully) trying to catch up on my sleep deficit so we couldn’t get an early start to the day we would need to go somewhere slightly farther away than our normal UTC/La Jolla/Mira Mesa stomping grounds. I have a whole list of local places that I want to go geocaching but it’s been slow getting through them. (On a side note, if you aren’t using Gubb to handle all of our listmaking, you are really missing out!)
Since the plan was to be around for 12:30 mass, we played it conservatively and tried to get a couple caches we couldn’t locate a couple weeks back. After going one for two (damn you, “Short, Steep Stop”!), we decided to head to the mall so I could fulfill my desire for new t-shirts. After spending some time at Sun Diego, I was ready to call it a day and head to church with Colleen but she apparently had other plans. I think she was just trying to make it so we didn’t go 3 weeks in a row (what evil machinations could be in that head of hers?) but whatever the case, we ended up forgoing church for some more shopping. For all of Colleen’s talk about cutting back on spending, she sure does like to browse
It was another beautiful day out though and since the Westfield UTC mall is an outdoor shopping center, it wasn’t a soulless experience.
After spending way too much time at the mall (and buying a couple Stansport Expedition Trekking Poles at Sports Chalet in the process), we came back and decided that the good weather called for more BBQ’ing. We had hoped to work on rearranging the furniture in the office today but Colleen got sucked into watching The Tudors (on DVD) this afternoon so we didn’t get much done after that. As a result, I still have plenty of stuff on my todo list (the one on Remember the Milk, not Gubb ;-)) including bike maintenance and fixing some more cookies. I also placed another cooking task on my list: make a vegan “cheese” cake. I’ve found a promising recipe but since Colleen isn’t a big fan of lemon cheesecake, I’m thinking that we’ll end up doing something similar to SusanV’s eggnog modification but with orange liqueur instead. I’m looking quite forward to it!
Well, it is getting late and I don’t want to add onto my sleep debt any more so I think I’ll wrap up this little (and, admittedly, bland) post now. Please check back tomorrow when I am hopefully successful in convincing Colleen to write an exciting post.
