A friendly chat

May 19th, 2008

Shortly after taking my new position a casual friend of mine from the library asked to have an informal chat with me.  I was a little excited and a little scared because I wasn’t sure what it was about (she didn’t really allude to anything).  So I was stressing a little – hoping that it was something fun but not too sure.  Well as it ends up she just had something on her mind that she felt she needed to share with me and was really worried that I would think that she was butting in where she didn’t belong.  So, would you be scared?  Because I sure was!  Thankfully the woman is super awesome and I knew she wouldn’t say anything intentionally mean and that she really did have my best interests at heart.

So, are you on the edge of your seat yet?  ;)  About a week earlier she had be-“friend”-ed me on Facebook.  As she was checking out my profile she thought she would check out our blog (I mean, I’m practically YELLING at people who read my profile to go to the blog!).  After reading through she was just concerned for me because although I have been good about not using people’s full names I still write enough that people that know me and where I work would know EXACTLY what I am talking about.  She just wanted to warn me about how sometimes those things come and bite you later.

First off, no, I am not mad!  I am so glad that she brought that to my attention.  That night I went through our site again to make sure that there were no names and to double check that I didn’t say anything awful (with or without names).  After looking through I decided that I could stand by everything that I wrote and nothing would get me or anyone else in trouble.  I guess I have been a little “gun shy” of writing lately because of it though.  Things at work have been. . . well, trying sometimes and I just wanted to make sure that I didn’t use the blog as a sounding board for things that really shouldn’t be in public domain.  But I think I am good now and ready to write again.

So thank you (you know who you are) for the warning – I needed it and appreciate it!  I think our blog did too!  It was a little too “this is what happened to me at work today” anyway.  Now, only happy posts!
