Homemade Vegan Truffles, originally uploaded by elsaturnino.

RSS has changed my life.

Sure, I’ve been using it for a while now but after I managed to get Colleen into using Google Reader, things have changed for the better. Howso, you may be asking. Well, Colleen has found quite a few good Vegan food blogs on the the net so she has been seeing lots of new ideas on different vegan goodies to fix for ourselves. VeganYumYum is one of our favorite blogs and we’ve tried several of the recipes from there. Fairly recently, Colleen found The Conscious Kitchen, another excellent blog.

One of the more recent posts there was a howto on making your own truffles. I’m a bit of a truffle addict, although I manage to keep away from them for the most part. Usually I pick up a fairly cheap box of basic ones from Whole Foods but they don’t last long. That’s why I was so excited when I learned that making your own truffles is so friggin’ easy. The aforementioned blog post has a cornucopia of different truffles but the basic recipe is quick and simple so I decide to try my hand at it tonight. I picked up a couple chocolate bars at Whole Foods and I was good to go. The result is shown in the above photo.

It only took about 10-15 mins of actual labor to make them so I definitely can’t complain—the whole process took about an hour because I had to let the chocolate set in the refrigerator. I used the “Semisweet Chocolate with Almonds” by Rapunzel (I could have sworn I picked up the bar that had hazelnuts rather than almonds…) and mixed in a little Frangelico to add a hazelnut flavor to it. C’est magnifique.

Now get moving and make your own. It’s too easy to pass up!
