Rubi: A wonderful present, originally uploaded by elsaturnino.

It’s official: we have kitties!

Colleen was just too anxious to wait until today so yesterday I went down to Bone Appetite and picked up our newest family members, Roxy and Rubi. Rubi wasn’t too much trouble to get into the carrier but Roxy was another story. I got a carrier big enough for 2 cats but there was no way they were both going in at the same time. Luckily Kelly, the owner of the pet store, gave us a second carrier to borrow. They definitely weren’t happy to take the short walk to the car though. They were meowing at the top of their little lungs and the people on the sidewalk couldn’t help but look and smile. Kelly kept saying that they would probably take a couple days to adjust and might be at each other in the mean time so I was prepared for the worst.

There were still plenty of meowing on the car but they calmed down mostly. After I got them home and in the apartment (still in the carriers though) they were quiet for the most part. I opened the door and they slowly emerged, both excited and a bit scared by their new environment. The first place they headed for was the confines of the Christmas tree (oh, cats and their trees!) before wandering off their separate ways.

Roxy was quick to adjust and she was interacting with me in no time but Rubi was a little anxious at first. She found the little crack behind the couch and the area behind our chair to be her favorite place at first (the picture above was her resting behind the chair). After a couple hours I coaxed her out and she has slowly been getting into the swing of things. Today she is even more rambunctious and they seem totally content in their new, forever, home.

Well, we have to go do a few things but I’m sure Colleen will give you much more info on our new kids when she posts tonight. Check out my Flickr page for more photos of them and stay tuned for some videos of them on YouTube.
